Why this property

  • Board-marked concrete by Ferrer Arquitectos
  • Uninterrupted westerly aspect to Es Vedrà
  • Twenty-eight-metre lap pool on the upper deck
  • Solar and greywater systems — near net-zero in season

About the property

Ferrer Arquitectos spent eighteen months on the planning application and four years on the build, which tells you something about both the site and the standard. Casa del Viento sits on a Cap Martinet headland with nothing to its west but water and, on a clear evening, the silhouette of Es Vedrà.

The material palette is three items long: board-marked concrete, untreated iroko, and glass. Nothing has been added since completion because nothing needs to be. The concrete was poured in situ against timber shuttering and carries the grain of it, which is the sort of decision that costs a great deal and reads as almost nothing.

In season the house runs close to net-zero. Roof-integrated photovoltaics, a greywater loop feeding the planting, and a thermal mass strategy that means the interiors hold temperature without mechanical assistance until roughly the second week of July.
